Two-time Grammy Award winning R&B artist T-Pain is bringing his “I Am T-Pain” tour to the Emporia Granada Theatre on March 30.
T-Pain is widely known for using and popularizing auto-tuned lyrics. Whether it’s his more than 50 chart topping hits or being celebrated on Saturday Night Live’s Lonely Island video, he has solidified himself as one of the most influential artists in the history of R&B/Hip-Hop.
T-Pain is currently on tour in support of his upcoming album "Stoicville: The Phoenix," and is enjoying the success of his new single, “Up Down,” which has found its’ way into the top 20 on the Billboard R&B/HipHop songs chart.
The tour wasn’t routed to hit the Emporia market, but when local artist and radio DJ for Kiss 103.1 Chad Carson, also known as CMAjoR, found out the tour was making a March stop in Kansas City, he reached out to T-Pain's management in hopes of bringing the tour to Emporia.
“It basically was like I knew somebody who knew somebody," Carson said. "After I got in contact with his management, I reached out to my friends and fans on Facebook and asked if they would support it, and the response was overwhelming. I think the town is ready for something like this, I think this is something that is great for the community, especially young people who often feel like Emporia offers little to them in terms of fun and entertainment.”
Carson, who is being featured as an opening act on the show, then contacted Bryan Williams, the Granada Theatre’s executive director, to find out if any dates were available if the tour were to make a stop in Emporia.
“The only date that was available was a Sunday, which isn’t the typical night you would expect a concert to be on, but given the scale of the artist, I didn’t think it would matter,” Carson said. “Now it’s up to the town to come out and show their support, so that hopefully we can continue to do things like this."
A representative from T-Pain’s camp released this statement, “We are excited to bring the I Am T-Pain Tour to Emporia. This is our first time coming to that area and look forward to connecting with fans we wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to connect with.”
